Go-ahead for huge mixed-use scheme despite Jodrell Bank concerns
Proposals to create more than 300,000 sq ft of employment space and up to 275 homes on a 59-acre plot in Congleton have been given the go-ahead.
Ainscough Strategic Land’s outline planning application for a major mixed-use development on three large agricultural fields off Back Lane on the northern side of Congleton was approved by Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board on Wednesday (22 March 2017).
The Somerford Green scheme is expected to provide 313,000 sq ft of employment development and up to 275 homes.
The application is only in outline and so the full details of the proposal are not yet known.
Jodrell Bank, which is home to the grade I-listed Lovell Telescope, objected to the scheme on the grounds that it would have a minor impact on its operations. The observatory noted that the cumulative impact of this and other developments in the area is more significant than each individual scheme. Read More
