RECORD BREAKING STUDENT NUMBERS ATTEND MACCLESFIELD CAREERS FAIR
A record number of schools and the college sent over 1,000 students to meet with 46 exhibitors including local, regional and national employers and education providers, at the fourth Macclesfield Careers & Education Fair, held at Macclesfield College on 5th February.
Following the success of the last three years, this was the first time the event was delivered by the Local Enterprise Partnership for Cheshire and Warrington.
The event piloted a speed networking approach to help young people have meaningful connections with employers and providers. Another first at the event was the Macclesfield Pledge ‘passports’ where exhibitors could stamp young people’s passports who showed a positive level of engagement. McCann Health provided a prize of £200 in Amazon vouchers for the school with the most stamps. This collected data will inform the local schools of which subject areas were of most interest to support curriculum development.
Georgina Mills, Facilitator for The Macclesfield Pledge, comments: “It’s fantastic that Macclesfield is leading the way for The Pledge Partnership and to see the high levels of engagement from schools and local businesses. I look forward to continuing to work with them on this important agenda.”
Clare Hayward MBE DL, Chair of the LEP Employer Skills and Education Board, comments: “The Pledge Partnership is focused on inspiring young people across Cheshire and Warrington. By bringing schools and employers together, conversations begin, awareness is increased and young people start to explore the variety of career opportunities open to them. This careers fair and innovative speed networking has helped over 1000 young people to connect directly with employers. We are delighted that everyone is keen to connect.”
The Pledge Partnership is one programme, alongside the Digital Skills Partnership and Accelerate Cheshire & Warrington, that forms an ambitious £30m skills and business growth project being delivered by the LEP and its partners to transform learning and skills development in Cheshire and Warrington.
